Josh
Floyd:
Bio:
Josh
Floyd graduated from Fairmont State University in WV, spent time
in Appomattox VA at the Cub Creek Foundation for the Ceramic Arts
and worked as studio assistant to Betty Hedman owner of Smicksburg
Pottery, PA.
Most recently
Josh has been making work in Brush Valley, reviving the studio
of the late David Hovland. David was an early member of the studio
tour and an active educator, becoming well known for his children’s
workshops and wood fired anagama kiln. During his time at Smicksburg
Pottery, Josh enjoyed firing the Hovland kiln every few months.
This past spring Josh spent 2 months in Brush Valley making work
and firing the kiln, deciding then to use the studio as his own
stop on the Potters tour. In addition to his work in Smicksburg
and Brush Valley, Josh recently worked at Penland School of Crafts
as studio assistant to Ron Meyers, Chuck Hindes, Ayumi Horie and
Daniel Johnston. He has most recently been experimenting with
wood fired earthenware clay and traditional Thai techniques for
large jar construction.
